We understand the importance of supplying our customers with robust industrial sensors that are both reliable and easy to use. With our exceptional array of sensor systems, we support innovation in a range of industries – including automation, science, and technology.
Sensors play a fundamental role in converting analogue signals into digital ones, anything from temperature readings to high velocities and pressure. Frequently applied to rotational and dynamic systems, sensors can easily convert and transmit accurate, quantifiable data as soon as it's required.
From our broad selection of Omron sensors to thousands of models from leading manufacturers including TURCK, Setra Systems, Balluff and many more, we’re confident that you'll be able to find the right sensor for your desired application here.
What are sensors?
Sensors make up a range of technical components that can detect specific chemical or physical limitations, either of the environment or objects found in it. Different types of sensors include motion, light, and temperature, amongst many others.
Sensors are invaluable in industrial settings. They can identify variables, often hazardous ones, that could otherwise remain undetected by humans. Crucially, sensors enable the conversion of quantifiable data into visual displays or signals. This allows data interpretation and management across sectors, allowing fields to be manually interpreted and monitored.
Depending on the type of sensor required, specific function and compatibility may vary. The fastest way to find the sensor you need is to filter your search using our useful toggle feature. Select your chosen category or manufacturer to find the most popular sensors and components.
Which types of sensors are available?
Motion sensors
Integral across a variety of applications, we have multiple types of motion sensors in our online selection. With a range encompassing everything from infrared safety sensors used in burglar alarms to vibration sensors used in rotational components like pumps, fans, and generators, we supply motion sensors for every industry.
Our high quality accelerometers measure the acceleration of any object. They work using an electromechanical sensor designed specifically to measure dynamic or static acceleration, so they can be used as a force sensor.
Static acceleration is a constant force such as gravity, while dynamic accelerations are non-constant, like sudden vibrations. Our accelerometers are suitable for applications including digital devices, rotating machinery, vehicles, and drones.
Encoders
Encoders convert motion to an electrical signal, providing feedback to a central control system. Our Panasonic encoders can be used to detect various control unit angles, while the Dynapar range features optical encoders to cover a broad range of applications through to AC motors in heavy duty machinery.
Temperature sensors and thermostats
We also have a diverse selection of temperature sensors and thermostats available. Integral in an array of industrial settings, thermostats provide accurate and reliable temperature response, monitoring, and adjustment. They're generally used in heating systems, but they're also essential in vehicles and household appliances.
Temperature sensors are seen primarily in thermocouple probe cable format, often encased in stainless steel, and are designed for use in specific devices. Their applications range from household appliances to aircraft engines, satellites, and spacecraft.
Light sensors
Also known as photoelectric devices, light sensors convert light energy into electrical signal output. They're used in lighting, solar panels, mobile phones, smoke detectors, remote control devices, and even compact disc players.
We also offer light curtains and compatible accessories, which make it possible to protect employees, machinery, and delicate installations. They can be used to safeguard staff working near hazardous equipment, providing an infrared boundary around the dangerous areas.
Voltage sensors
An important type of safety sensor used by electricians, voltage sensors provide fast and accurate voltage readings. They can be attached to various assets, machinery, or equipment, and they're suitable for long-term use too.
We also provide current transducers, which make a useful further addition to industrial machinery. These devices convert current input on a primary conductor into a different type of current signal on the secondary conductor. This can then be utilized by electronic control boards and external instruments.
What are the applications of different sensors?
Sensors facilitate vital functions across numerous industries. They're used in everyday systems, complicated machinery, and in ultra-specific production techniques. Some of the most common sectors employing sensors include:
- Aerospace engineering
- Automotive production
- Energy and power generation (fossil fuels, hydro, nuclear, and wind)
- Food and beverage
- Household appliances
- Machine tools
- Metalworking
- Mining and mineral processing
- Pulp and paper
